Comeback decade of the year: the 1990s. As a 90s child, I grew up in the era of crop tops, scrunchies, and mom jeans. But, the essence of my 90s fashion was the choker, preferably with half of a heart that said “best” so my BFF could have the other half that said “friend.” Obviously, this was the ultimate test of friendship.
And while the best-friend chokers haven’t quite reemerged like the velvet, metal, and leather ones have, the choker has undoubtedly resurrected from the 90s. Great news for our weekend wardrobe, but where does this leave our work wardrobe?
Incorporating today’s trends into office style can be a tricky feat. But, if you follow one rule, your outfit should meet today’s standards of professional attire. The rule? Balance.
It’s all a balancing act, but not a new one. We do this without much thought already, like when you pair a solid shirt with printed pants or vice versa. It’s the same concept with the choker – pair trendy with classic. In this outfit, I paired a trendy scarf, used as a choker, with a classic trouser and blouse to make, if I do say so myself, a fashionable and professional ensemble. The 90s kid in me is quite proud.
